City Park Part 2. Big Lake.

Well, I guess I did it.  Don't have any time tonight to write much about it, but I wanted to share the evidence.  I did manage to get up and out again today.  Granted, it was a gorgeous day and the temperature outside was perfect, but regardless, I still got up and did some outside stuff again.  I only posted the City Park pics tonight, but I also had an Algiers Ferry adventure.  Being new to NOLA as a resident, I have been enjoying some of the things I ignored when I was a tourist.  I guess ignored is the wrong word, more like those things I didn't know anything about.  Things I was ignorant of is a better description.  Either way, I always knew I loved this city and am just now realizing how much I didn't know.  I can't even imagine how much I'll love this city as I become more exposed.  I am beginning to realize what a stuffy, adventureless life I led before I moved down here.  I mean, don't get me wrong; it's not like I never went anywhere or did anything.  I'm well traveled for a person of limited means, and I've definitely done my fair share of exploring the rest of the world, but I guess the only city I ever called "home" before NOLA was Lafayette.  While I will always love that city, I see now that I was essentially staying in Lafayette, while I am now living in New Orleans.  Does that make sense?  Anyway...I didn't have time for all this.  I just wanted to post the new pics.  See my 2nd City Park adventure below.

Get up and Get out!

So, I'm the kind of person that loves the idea of being outdoorsy, but manages to be the best at just sitting on my ass in the lovely, lovely air conditioning.  It's difficult sometimes to motivate yourself to get up and play outside if you're living in New Orleans when the humidity factor is at 98% and the heat index is 105°.  This is the usual, you know.  You can probably count using all fingers and toes, the number of days a year that are California weather beautiful.  Undoubtedly though, those days are all the more precious for their rarity.  Several days ago, one of these oh so precious days graced me with its presence.  It was one of those days that just screams "GET OFF YOUR ASS AND GO OUTSIDE!"  It was one of those days that made me realize just how much of this beautiful world I'm missing out on, hiding from the heat.  So, I got my camera, my fiancé, my tennis shoes, a good attitude and met the day with a mission.  My mission was to take in all the beauty that I could in the few free hours I had.  And you know what?  I did.  I took my "not quite point and shoot, not quite professional, I wish I knew more about photography" camera and went to town...or park, City Park in New Orleans, to be exact.  I hit up Jackson Square for just a few minutes, invaded Café du Monde (I needed the first beignets I've had in years to round out my special afternoon), and then headed over to City Park to soak up the Vitamin D, watch people, and make a brave attempt at the one thing I love that I know nothing about, photography.  Below is a link to the results of this adventure.  All in all, I think it was all a success.  I'm not trying to sell anything, or get "discovered", or even have anyone else like what I do.  I'm really just trying to impress myself.  I did that and had a beautiful afternoon, so I guess I win.  I seem to have awakened the desire to get outside, to be the kind of person that doesn't just love the idea of being outdoorsy, but loves actually getting out and doing it.  I think I can be that now, at least until the next 105° day.

Until next time.

woohoo! I got me a posterous.

OK, so I decided to do this.  Not sure if it's gonna be worth it yet, but we'll see, right?  Hopefully I'll have something interesting happen to me.  Well I guess not happen to me.  I mean, usually the stuff that happens "to" people is the bad stuff.  Let's try that again.  Hopefully I'll make something interesting happen that people will want to hear about.  Never thought I'd be blogging in a million years, but hey, if you can't beat 'em....write about it, right?

OK guys, fingers crossed that I keep up with this, and if I don't....nice knowin' ya!
